Crowdfunding in Poland and worldwide – opportunities and scope of use in the 21st century

Abstract

Research problem: Crowdfunding is an alternative source of financing for companies. The article presents the definition, essence and history of crowdfunding. In addition, selected crowdfunding platforms and examples of crowdfunding campaigns were presented. The advantages and disadvantages of crowdfunding and the occurrence of crowdfunding campaigns in individual countries were discussed. The research problem was to get to know the level of knowledge of Polish students about crowdfunding and related issues.

Purpose and methods: The aim of this article is to broaden the knowledge about the occurrence and development of crowdfunding in Poland and worldwide. For the purpose of the article, a survey was conducted among students on crowdfunding in Poland and worldwide. The survey included 58 respondents.

Results and conclusions: It was found that the most popular crowdfunding platforms among Polish students are Zrzutka. pl and Patronite. Students would most like to invest their money in crowdfunding campaigns on health, travel and new technologies. The level of knowledge about crowdfunding in Poland is relatively low. Students feel that this method of financing ventures is not safe enough for them to invest large amounts of money.
