The dream was the starting point of surrealism and the specific philosophy of this avant-garde movement. Surrealists wrote down their dreams, believing that in this way they would be able to capture the authentic, uninhibited voice of the unconscious mind. This article attempts to analyze the dreams of Robert Desnos, who went down in the history of surrealism as its most important “dreamer”. It turns out that these notes contain many elements characteristic of the poet’s entire later work, permeated with oneirism.
