Transformation of social services and long-term senior care provided by nongovernmental organisations in Slovakia

Abstract

Objectives. The aim of research study is to reflect historical development and to analyse changes in the provision of social services in Slovakia in legislative framework based on the on social security, social assistance and social services.
Methods. Data collection was done by interviews with directors of non-public social services facilities provided by church organisations, this part of the study analysed the changes in social services and its sustainability. the quantitative part of the study used chi-test to analyse changes in the form of the social services, the number of facilities and changes in legislative framework. Total sample was consisted of 41 managers in care centres and data collection was held in the end of the year 2019.
Results. The research results pointed out the valuable data showing the changes in social services due to many types of the social law novelisations. The consequences of it are rapid decrease of number of the low threshold social services, the daily care centres for seniors and increased number of vulnerable people and the elderly in 10-years period.
Conclusion. Transformation of social services changed the form of social services, which underwent long development, nevertheless failed to harmonize health and social care in Slovakia to meet the needs of sustainability of long-term care for dependent people to help another person.
