Abstract

The paper is a comparison of poems of two authors: Stanisław Barańczak and Robert Frost and the ways in which they construct some of their finest works around the metaphor of the eye or metaphor of looking. This comparison is an effort to find answers to various  questions: what the human being can see looking at world, at other people and finally at themselves. The analysis of the ways of creating the image of the eye in Barańczak’s
and Frost’s poems leads to conclusions about possibilities and, on the other hand, limitations of the human mind as well about the functions of poetry. The important thing is that Barańczak is considered both an author of his own works and a translator of Frost’s poetry.
